America Online restores access for Derrick Wolbert after he was banned for life for posing as an AOL agent in an email. The reversal comes amid questions over the incident and online safety rules.
Elyria voters approved a 4.95 mill levy by 5,050 to 4,288, avoiding cuts to 30 teachers and 30 other staff, extracurriculars, transportation, and upgrades. Superintendent E Jean Harper praised citizens as district officials warned of a $3.3 million deficit without the levy.
Heather Beck, a first year Elyria High School teacher, welcomes the approval of a 4.95 mill school levy. Voters backed the measure Tuesday, averting staffing and program cuts and easing job worries for Beck and three other teachers profiled by The Chronicle-Telegram.
Ford Motor Co scrambled to restore production at its River Rouge complex after a deadly explosion halted work there and slowed output at Lorain and Avon Lake plants. The River Rouge site includes a Mus tang assembly plant and other parts factories. 14 workers remained in critical condition.
The maternity ward at Amherst Hospital will close, putting 11 registered nurses out of work. EMH Regional Healthcare System cites economics and plans to transfer maternity services to EMH's Elyria hospital, with staff offered internal positions or assistance in job searches. The plan awaits Ohio Department of Health approval.
Greifenfeld Estates residents seek a one mile noise barrier along Interstate 90 from Gulf Road to Route 254. Ohio Department of Transportation estimates exceed 1 million dollars for a basic barrier, but the department has scarce funds and strict criteria. Officials note upgrades raise costs and no money is available to fund the project. the city could build it, but the price tag is prohibitive.
