Capitol soap canceled by CBS after five years
Timing proved fatal for Capitol as CBS ends the Washington based daytime soap after five years in a no win 2:30 p.m. slot. The Bold and the Beautiful will replace it the following Monday. Executive producer John Conboy says the half hour format hindered growth and audience reach. Capitol had been in 11th place among day parts and eighth among 12 soaps. Conboy notes the show was conceived as an hour program and CBS could have expanded it. Cap it all, CBS argues the time slot and length doomed the run and plans to pursue other avenues for Capitol internationally and in syndication.
