Unusual Question Of Law Before Judge Findley

Common Pleas Judge Guy Indley heard a case arising from a $3,000 judgment won by Edward Hromoda of Lorain against Joseph Hazzard Jr. A jury verdict for Hromoda dated December 20, 1926, followed injuries from a collision with Hazzard's car a year earlier. The issue was whether the court could compel payment and, if Hazzard refused, whether contempt proceedings could result in imprisonment, and whether such imprisonment would violate constitutional debt imprisonment prohibitions. Wages for federal employees cannot be garnished, raising the core question of enforcement and potential contempt.
