Baker predicts $40 billion deficit cut for 1987
Treasury Secretary James A. Baker III said on ABC that the U.S. trade deficit will fall about $40 billion in 1987 due to lower interest rates and inflation, aided by defense budget cuts. He argued the dollar's level should not be the sole solution and noted substantial December deficit improvement.
