German coal miners in the Saar basin vote for a general strike beginning Monday. France retains exclusive Saar mining rights under the Versailles treaty, with a plebiscite planned after twenty years to decide if the mines stay German or join France.
Police court receipts for the past month show a marked decline with a total of 744.90 dollars. Thirty four cases were tried and disposed of, including 13 dollars from vendors licenses, 3.35 dollars from building permits, and 11,365 dollars from miscellaneous collections. The month’s total is 9719.00 dollars.
New York February 2 Judge Elbert H Gary chairman of United States Steel Corp said steel prices will rise following wholesale commodity trends and head to higher levels though demand will not slump. He blamed labor shortage from immigration law and noted Pittsburgh area operates at 85 percent capacity under this strain. He explained why a recent corporate statement showed higher business yet failed to deliver full dividends due to rising operating costs and a wage increase lifting payroll by 4 million dollars monthly.

Federal agents arrested a police lieutenant two patrolmen and seven others on conspiracy charges after seizing six truckloads of whiskey valued at 75 000 dollars from a craft ship off headland. The officers claimed to be conducting a raid when seized, sparking a clash and arrests. In a separate case James Clark accused residents at 204 Pine Street of liquor theft, officers entered, no liquor found, Clark jailed for intoxication and fined five dollars plus costs.

Washington February 2 The Farm Credit bill would create twelve banks with capital up to 5 million each and allow government subscribed stock to back debentures totaling over 1.2 billion. It would permit discounting agricultural paper and lending to co operatives while limiting debenture terms to five years. Passage before March 4 is anticipated despite opposition from Administration majorities and Progressive critics.
Columbus February 2. A bill introduced in the Ohio House by Representative Dearmond Butler county would regulate the real estate business statewide. The measure seeks licensure for real estate brokers and salesmen to oversee professional conduct and protect buyers and sellers.
Columbus Feb 2 An increase in average prices for farm products over last year is reported by state federal statistician C J West. Exemptions are hay and potatoes with hay down about one dollar per ton and potatoes down roughly 40 percent from early last year.
