Ohio governor bans discrimination against homosexual state workers
In December 1983 Governor Celeste issued an executive order prohibiting state government from discriminating against employees based on sexual orientation. The order directs agencies to implement protections, forming a committee to guide enforcement. Civil rights groups praised the move as Ohio joins a handful of states extending protections to lesbians and gay men in state employment.
