Douglas Tarry Killed in Korea Fighting
Pfc. Douglas Tarry aged 24 of 434 West River Street was killed in Korea on December 22. His mother Mrs. Lottie Tarry was notified by telegram. He served since February and had been in Korea since August, formerly worked as a cab driver, and was one of 14 children. He leaves several siblings and is survived by his mother and military family. Seoul reports from Korea note UN guns firing to mark the New Year and Chinese forces attacking Seoul defenses amid threats of a winter offensive with snow and cold conditions. Military officials say the threats are propaganda and see no major buildup, as Allied forces push back in Yonchon-Chorwon and hold lines above Old Baldy.

Fire damages trailer home of two brothers
Fire of undetermined origin caused heavy damage to the trailer home of Harold and John Avery at 5512 Fuller Road Carlisle. The Carlisle Fire Department answered the call about 10 20 and firefighters remained for about an hour and a half after a kerosene can exploded, adding to the blaze. Smoke damage was heavy. No loss estimate was reported.
