Loyalist ship guarded by British and French at Gibraltar
Grounded Loyalist destroyer Jose Luis Diez faced seven Nationalist warships off Gibraltar as British and French naval forces protected it. The battle left seven Loyalists dead and 11 wounded, including a sergeant in Catalan Bay. British and French vessels, including Basque, stood by the disabled ship while Gen. Sir Edmund Ironside ordered a strong guard aboard to deter further attack.
