Ohio leaders seek to save Sunnyhill miners in Perry County
Governor Celeste and U S Rep Miller join Perry County officials and Peabody Coal to keep 520 Sunnyhill mine jobs by exploring new markets for high sulfur coal and possible federal EPA intervention. Michigan regulators block continued burning of Sunnyhill coal at Consumers Power units. Celeste directs state to pursue an industrial park plan and aid for displaced miners if needed. Miller cites possible federal challenges to state rules with an eye toward reopening the door to a solution.
