YMCA seeks $750000 for Elyria addition at Washington Ave

A campaign to raise seven hundred fifty thousand dollars for an Elyria Area YMCA addition moves forward. Plans include a men’s health club saunas gym three handball courts two meeting rooms offices and expanded locker rooms with construction to start in June and occupation targeted by August first, 1978. Roy West leads the board, with co chairs Arthur Hudnutt and William Standen heading fundraising.

Elyria Loses bid for federal city hall funds

Elyria will not receive $6 million for a new city hall after the Commerce Department rejected the Public Works money requests. Lorain County Community College and Elyria High School renovations also failed to get funding. only a fraction of Ohio projects were approved. No Lorain County projects were funded.

Hills complex gets planning OK for 8 million shopping center

Elyria planners approve a conditional plan for an 8 million 16 acre Hills Center at Gleve land Street and Rt 57 with a Hills Department Store Burger King family restaurant a supermarket and about a dozen small shops. Construction may start within 90 days once storm drainage and traffic signals are arranged and easements agreed.
