Walnut water line found near Frankfort site in Guernsey County
In Guernsey County two men uncovered a 169 year old walnut water line buried two and a half feet deep on Donald Placke’s Frankfort site. The log pipe spanned from a spring to a house and distillery, built from 15 foot walnut logs joined with wooden pins and hot iron holes. The line reportedly carried clear flowing water, swelling shut the wood as it filled.

New welfare rules to have little effect here
Lorain County officials say new state and federal welfare rules taking effect Tuesday will scarcely alter local programs. Changes include separating 18 to 20 year olds from ADC, a 2.20 cap on personal property, SSI implementation shifting to Social Security offices, and a 15 monthly work relief allowance. County figures show Ohio welfare use higher than national norms, with Medicaid expansion linked to SSI, and the county expects SSI related caseload growth.
