Kids start Cell Phones for Soldiers in bid to help troops
Fourteen year old Brittany Bergquist and her 12 year old brother Robbie launched Cell Phones for Soldiers to provide prepaid calling cards to soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. They funded the effort with $21 from piggy banks, yard sales, and school donations, with local banks and companies supporting refurbishing programs. The non profit recently gained tax deductible status from the IRS, expanding contributions from nationwide supporters.

Top Shiite leader survives car bombing in Baghdad
A car bombing near Abdul Aali al Hakim's home in Baghdad killed 16 people and wounded at least 60 as guards blocked the blast. Al Hakim’s United Iraqi Alliance, leading the Shiite bloc, faced security concerns before elections while a rival Sunni group withdrew from the campaign. An Al Jazeera broadcast claimed Osama bin Laden endorsed Zarqawi.
