North Ridgeville police seek details on Ray W. Fizer actions in the 12 hours before the Dec. 20 night crash that killed Edward and Catherine Ratusz. Sgt Don Smith said alcohol may have been a factor and Fizer, 37, admitted driving a maroon 1994 Ford Explorer that struck the Ratuszs on Interstate 480 near the Ohio Turnpike. The couple, owners of Eddy's Chalet West, died from their injuries.

An Oberlin man, Jonathan Drake, 20, requests suppression of blood and urine test results and his police admissions about drug use before a June 27 crash that killed Creighton Green, 16. Drake faces vehicular homicide charges. his attorney argues tests and statements were obtained unlawfully and seeks a hearing on admissibility. Prosecutors say tests showed marijuana and LSD in Drake’s system.
The Transportation Department will propose rules to allow less forceful air bags and permit switches to disconnect them, with a 30 day public comment period and final rule planned soon. The measures aim to keep air bag safety while reducing hazard to children and smaller adults in low speed crashes.
