Cuyahoga County coroner says Dec 2 death of Dr Richard Zbornik 56 Amherst was self inflicted. Deputy coroner Dr Takeshi Imajo cites loss of blood from a self harm act and low mood leading to suicide. Zbornik was a radiologist with Russell Berke Drs and Associates and survived by three sons a daughter and his parents.
WZAK-FM disc jockey Lynn Tolliver, 35, wounded in a hallway shooting at WZAK-FM, held a hospital news conference. He says he aims to be back at work within days after three bullet wounds in left arm, right leg and chest. Police lack suspects. station offers 2000 dollar reward. assailant described as tall man in blue ski mask.
Lorain County Common Pleas Court denied shock probation for Gerald Smithberger, 54, former youth baseball coach from Amherst. He was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading no contest to three counts of gross sexual imposition. Smithberger surrendered in August. attorney says he is making progress in prison through therapy.
ENCER Tom Grant of Sait Cablevision selected Jesse Rose’s South Main Street property in Spencer as a potential satellite dish site. The area is zoned for industrial use. A public meeting is set for Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the town hall to discuss the proposal.
Tanya Lyn Adkinson Gerki 43 of Vermilion died Friday at Lorain Community Hospital after a long illness. She was born in Macon Georgia and lived in Vermilion 13 years. Survived by daughters Kim Smith Teresa Adkinson both Vermilion Kathy Adkinson Sandusky. sons Terry L. Allen Byron Georgia Donald Adkinson Vermilion Philip Gerki Wellington. sisters Rita Phillips Florida Rae Drake Americus. brothers Gerrell Lancaster Clearwater Terrell Lancaster Atlanta. two grandchildren. Visitation 7-9 pm Friday and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Riddle Funeral Home Vermilion. Services Monday 1 pm at the funeral home. Rev Don Betts officiating. Burial Maple Grove Cemetery Vermilion.
A 29 year old Elyria man, Russell D. Smith of Grafton, is in critical condition after a late Thursday shooting at 328 10th St. He was wounded by a .38 caliber weapon and the assailant fled with another man heading in a yellow or beige truck. The suspect has been sought since September for failing to appear for sentencing on charges including receiving stolen property and felonious assault.
George Ferguson was sworn in as Lorain County municipal court judge at the Lorain County Administration Building in a ceremony attended by about 100. J Grant Keys administered the oath. E H Roberts presided as master of ceremonies. Ferguson announced staff appointments including John Zywczyk as chief bailiff and Gary Dickerson as second bailiff.

A fire ruled likely electrical in origin caused about 40 000 damage to Darryl Horton’s home at 219 West River Road South in Elyria. The blaze started on the second floor and spread to the attic and first floor, with 30 000 in structure damage and 10 000 in contents. Fire Prevention Bureau to rule on cause.
