Elyria approves rezoning to allow Midway Boulevard extension
Elyria City Council voted to rezone a 20 acre parcel south of the proposed Midway Boulevard extension from R-1 to B-1 for neighborhood business under an emergency measure to let Meyer Goldberg exercise options before January 1. Goldberg would donate land for the extension, pay half the paving, cover eminent domain costs, and fund widening Ford Road, but a northern property owner’s son said his father won’t join the extension. The council also discussed rezoning to allow a future high density residential use and a possible reverse curve at West River Road, with no final decisions. Residents near Lake Avenue and Walnut Street urged against change, fearing loss of residential character and the fate of a planned Convenient Food Store. No action was taken, pending December committee review and Planning Commission input.
