Avon resident reaches centenarian milestone
Avon resident Mrs. Edward Modlin, born Jennie Mitterslaugh in Sulphur Springs Indiana on December 27 1867, celebrated her 100th birthday at Avon Oaks Nursing Home. She moved to the area ten years ago to be with family and remains the oldest member of Sugar Grove Methodist Church. She has a daughter Mrs. Lelia LaMar and a son George, along with six grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Her late husband Edward died 21 years ago after 59 years of marriage.

Mount Hood Climber Sets Fast Ascent Record
Portland Oregon UPI reports Elijah Coleman, a mountain guide, reached the 11 245 foot Mt Hood summit in 8 minutes securing the fastest ascent. He then slid from the summit to the Timberline in 13 minutes marking a record for speed on the route.
