Amherst adopts long awaited zoning ordinance after three years
The Amherst city council passed a 26 page zoning ordinance creating eight zones including R1 R2 RS C1 C3 Manufacturing and Industrial and a four member zoning appeals board. The measure goes into effect 30 days later. Amending petitions to rezone parts of South Main Street were considered with planning commission input and procedural concerns raised by Councilman Husar.

Amherst council OKs waterline project and new fire contract
Amherst Council approved a waterline installation along North Lake Streetland Avenue and Cooper Foster Park Road and authorized a three member equalization board to review assessments. A mutual aid fire protection contract with Brownhelm Township was adopted on third reading, setting a rate of 140 per fire call plus 330 per hour per fireman after the first hour.

Amherst postmaster Frederick W. Deiner reports December mail rose 5 percent from the 1964 period. From Dec 1 to Dec 24 card and letter mail totaled 308,109, up 24,045. packages 5,210, up 922. Peak day was Dec 16 with 35,461 items. Additional help included six city carriers and a consulting firm for urban renewal planning.
