Resources unit study signals consolidation in Ohio

A study proposal ahead of the General Assembly foresees creating a Division of Outdoor Recreation within the Department of Natural Resources and possibly replacing director Herbert Eagen. The Park Admission Fees, Marine Fuel Tax and Water Management Study Committee led by Rep. Robert E. Holmes also favors a rotary fund to finance conservancy districts and allows issuance of revenue bonds. Rumors say a merger of Parks, Watercraft and Wildlife divisions could form the new division, though wildlife finances may block that. The report urges long term land acquisitions for parks, wildlife, forestry, and water projects, and Governor elect Rhodes favors shifting commercial fishing regulation to the Ohio Wildlife Council.
