County to gain extra cash for budgeting in 1977
Lorain County Auditor Julian A. Pijor estimated about $7.4 million will be available for the general fund next year, roughly $2.1 million below department requests. Oberlin man jailed after fracas on Christmas Day
A 29-year-old Oberlin man Rhubin Yarber of 91 Maple Street was jailed on Christmas Day after allegedly assaulting his wife and two police officers and resisting arrest. He faces two counts of assault resisting arrest and disorderly conduct and is held in Oberlin city jail under $10,000 bond.

Lorain County Sheriff Line Down Delays Calls Early Morning
A Lorain County sheriff's line and its radio system were down for over three hours starting around 5:30 am, delaying incoming calls but not hindering patrols. Elyria police logged numerous traffic accidents throughout the day, including two and three car crashes on Griswold Road, Midway Mall Boulevard, and Lodi Chestnut streets with mostly minor injuries. A burglary at Casey's Drive-In and a range of police incidents from assaults to a stolen van were also noted, with arrests and investigations ongoing.

Miracle on 89th Street spares mother and child
In Overland Park Kansas a Christmas Eve collision left Stephanie E Shoemaker and her three year old daughter Natalie miraculously unscathed after a SUV struck their smaller car at 70 mph in a 35 mph zone on 8th street. Natalie suffered only minor scratches while Stephanie wore a neck brace for possible injuries. Grandmother Jane Shoemaker called it the miracle of 89th Street, saying life was a gift this Christmas.

Wadsworth launches new municipal court for small claims
