Symons Elected Clerk Amid City Council Shuffle
Mayor W H Vanosler secured the council clerk post for Dan B Symons, sinking fund clerk, in a five to four vote with a later unanimous motion. The plan cuts clerk costs to about 1200 annually and places Richard Elliott at 75 a month as clerk of the planning commission and board of control. Elliott’s role plus Symons aims to provide city matters, including the new 408000 water main, with steadier administration. Critics argued the move could make Symons a rubber stamp and urged delaying the decision to study alternatives.
