Governor weighs clemency for battered wives in Washington
Seattle AP report says King County Coalition Against Domestic Violence urges Gov. Booth Gardner to review 65 women at Purdy State Corrections Center for Women for possible clemency after Ohio Gov. Celeste freed 25 battered women. The group cites battered women syndrome and aims to curb further harm. Gardner’s staff notes clemency decisions rest with the Clemency and Pardons Board. he has rarely used this power since 1984.
