Medivac unit cuts civilian flights as Life Flight expands
The 316th Medical Detachment based at Lorain County Regional Airport cut civilian MAST missions after Cleveland Metro Life Flight began in August. The unit, with six UH-1 Huey helicopters, will still respond to disasters or mass casualty events and transports from smaller hospitals to Cleveland facilities when needed. The move followed their 1979 designation and 1972 creation, with most missions now originating east and south of Cleveland. Lorain County site offers larger hangar space but longer commutes for reservists.
