Science hunting new ways to use sugar
Science officials seek new roles for sugar beyond food and energy. The Sugar Research Foundation backed by the National Science Fund, led by Harvard’s Harlow Shapley, will award 5000 dollars for the best research idea to increase sugar usefulness. Submissions due January 15. The prize was created in 1946 with a 25000 dollar grand prize in 1950. Dr Carl W. Heish, a Washington University biochemistry professor, previously won it.
