Mrs Evangeline Lindbergh landed at Tampico in a three motor Toran plane after rough weather. She plans to spend Christmas with her son Charles Lindbergh and may remain until tomorrow morning due to poor flying conditions.
In Cincinnati Ohio George Emus, once wealthy and jailed for a murder case, prepared for a Tuesday sanity hearing before Probate Judge Willaim Ho Leaders. He must prove current sanity to avoid confinement. Three alienists who evaluated him previously will review his condition.
In Columbus on December 22 a report by State Examiner W F Brown found Melvin former Lawrence County treasurer and his bondsmen owe the county 54 838 06. The shortage includes bank deficit 1289 deficit in tax funds 8 587 deficit in 1927 taxes 8 06097 and 8819 for delinquent land advertising. Melvin allegedly covered the shortage with forged certificates of deposit showing 140 729 77 but actual deposits were 96 094 88. He confessed and resigned.
Federal agents found a brewery yesterday in the abandoned Reed Hope schoolhouse near Milwaukee Wisconsin. The school sits across the highway from two buildings. Two men were arrested on suspicion of operating the brewery.
The Ohio state supreme court set January 6 for the execution of 17 year old Mlosd Hewitt of Conneaut for the February murder of Fred Brown. Also reported: threats and an attack on realtor William T. Drouillard’s son in Toledo. Drouillard guards home after note series. In Nelsonville, police seek an unidentified man who shot Irene McDowell at the Deanville camping ground.
King George declared that Britain has no plan to raise its naval building program despite the temporary fluctuation of the Coolidge conference. He noted British delegates had offered Linton proposals that could have reduced naval strength, but no general agreement was achievable. The king defended Britain's defense needs across its vast empire.
Four marooned men including fishermen Louis Trancks and William Myers and aviators George Wells and D D Corwin were rescued from a West Sister Island after a gale swamped their craft. Coast guard tugs from Toledo recovered the stranded group as hunger and exposure took a toll before the rescue.
City officials say the two week old fire against City Hall raised property losses to around seven thousand dollars, with the council chamber area the hardest hit. Service Director James A. Lewitt noted the figure may grow smaller with closer assessment and hoped restoration crews would reopen the chamber by Tuesday.
Governor Donabey today granted pardons for Curtis V. Darrow, housed in Stark county workhouse for a liquor offense since May 1, 1927, and Lewis Mongona, from Tuscarawas county, sentenced to the Ohio penitentiary on a liquor offense. The pardons follow Prohibition Commissioner B F P McDonald's recommendation, with Mongona required to pay $200 of the $200 fine as a condition.
An eleven day vacation for about 5,400 school children began after the afternoon dismissal as students leave class excited for Christmas. Many grade schools held parties. teachers choose whether to host. The high school presented a Christmas program. schools resume January 3, 1828.
The Elyria Central Labor Union ships two crates of clothing to the Miner's Relief Headquarters in Columbus and sends funds to three industries. Charles Ho Kay, chief treasurer of the Central Labor Union, leads the relief effort and collection of wearing apparel and donations.
In Brunswick Maine on December 22, Raymond Petite a former National Guard sharpshooter wounded his father and mother then killed Mrs. Marian Waite. He fled to a house and was wounded and captured by officers after shooting one woman and wounding three others.
Columbus report on Dec 2 0 describes Tee Tiall president of Ohio Union Miners accusing coal operators of destroying natural resources by producing only accessible coal. Hall calls for a czar with authority similar to baseball’s Landis to end fierce competition and salvage the industry.
Kiwanis children and families gathered for a Christmas party at the Newell hotel hosted by the Blytia Kiwanis. N. K. King portrayed Santa arriving in a reindeer drawn sleigh as Mae Simmons told a Christmas story. Local children performed songs recited pieces and danced while a small orchestra provided music during luncheon led by Jack Frost and a whist le instrument duo.
Secretary of the Navy Wilbur today defended the department against critics over submarine safety after the S-4 incident. He expressed confidence that the Navy has developed all safe and practical life-saving devices for submarines and said he does not mind criticism but believes all possible measures have been taken.
Justice Adolph A. Hoshling of the District of Columbia Supreme Court tendered his resignation to President Coolidge today at the White House saying he desires to resume private practice. The action ends his role in the faltering partnership trial.
Divers failed to find life after tapping on the torpedo room. Admiral Grumby reported no hope of saving the 81 men trapped as air pumps forced fresh air into the submarine. The Falcon crew resumed dives, surveying the wreck 19 feet below the surface, as plans to raise the vessel with pontoons were developed amid clear weather and warming temperatures.
Vice President Dawes hosted a Christmas party for Senate employees in the minority conference room of the Senate Office Building. About seventy five places were set at a long table, extending the traditional turkey dinner to all Senate employees.
Mrs Luna Nye wife of Judge Nye passed away at the family home on 2nd Wishing avenue on Thursday afternoon after a period of illness. Funeral arrangements to be announced later.
Forty or more warrants were issued today on 70 Toledoans tied to 72 indictments by the county grand jury. The panel also criticized the board of elections for conduct surrounding the last city election and cited irregular registration practices, especially in Ward 7. The indictments stem from an investigation by C. J. Davis and Joseph A. Godown, assistants to the state attorney general.
The county home held its annual Christmas party last night with entertainment from county groups including the Junior Symphony Orchestra of Murray Ridge school a Wellington quartet the Peerless Oil Quartet the Kiwanis Quartet and Bul Struck's orchestra.

Eighteen seamen were rescued today after the tug Setter ran aground inside Chickens Reef on Goose Bay Neck. The 176-ton vessel owned by MacWilliam Blue Line of New York was isolated as rescuers arrived with little difficulty. The cause of the accident could not be determined, though seas were not heavy.
Keefe, first vice president of the American Steel and Wire Co, is slated to succeed the late William Pendleton Palmer as president. The decision rests with directors of United States Steel Corp, owner of the subsidiary. A meeting is set for Tuesday in New York. Keefe has served as acting president since last April and has been active in the 1899 organization.
Weatherman C A Donnell of the U S Weather Bureau warned of unsettled conditions and possible snow as of February 22 with a disturbance over the southern region increasing snow chances in the next 12 to 36 hours yet leaving final Christmas weather unclear for the middlewest.
Handwriting experts were summoned by the senate investigating committee to verify documents allegedly from Hearst newspapers as Meaxi sean state papers. Names of the experts were not disclosed and committee members declined to discuss the evidence obtained.

In Los Angeles on December 22 police advanced the thesis that Edward Wickman may have eluded 5,000 southern California peace officers by dying his hair and wearing feminine clothes. Wickman, known for impersonating women in theatre roles, was said to have posed as a woman in the case.

Washington Dec 22 Senator Simeon A Fess of Ohio went on record as supporting Willis as his first choice for president and Hoover as second choice for commerce secretary after consulting Ohio Republicans Willis is Ohio's favorite son and Fess had hoped Coolidge would seek renomination.
Columbus Ohio December 22 a committee was appointed by the Ohio state chamber of commerce to disseminate complete information on the Boulder Dam proposal. The chamber called the project a national issue that, if consummated, will cost taxpayers millions. President Frank R. B. McMillan said the public has not been given the facts and accused hidden motives.
