Charles Gilbert an air mail pilot was found dead beside a wrecked plane in Kaneville New Jersey after attempting a westward flight through blinding snow. Parachute fragment clung to him suggesting he leaped but parachute did not open.
Columbus officials announce that the State Highway Department will urge the general assembly to approve a 7.025 million plan to eliminate 69 grade crossings in 1925, with a follow up to remove 65 more in 1926 if permitted. Railroads will pay half the cost, focusing on crossings with recent fatal accidents.
The Lorain County Agricultural Society board met and approved ground changes at the southwest corner of the race track to lower the viewing height by 20 feet for better horseside sightlines. They also plan to enlarge the grand stand with closer seating and reserved box seats, plus a poultry house extension and other improvements.
Lorain sees Red Cross director Henry M. Baker leave for national relief work in Columbus. R. C. Agnee assumes his Lorain post. Red Cross accountant Edward S. Grant also departs for duties in Washington.
Frank Mauerman a 35 year old railroad engineer of Youngstown Ohio was fatally injured when the car he and his wife rode in was struck by another machine in New Castle. He died at the scene and the body was taken to the New Castle morgue.
Sheriff Forre Ratis Home Frank Price of Amherst township was arrested early Sunday after a raid between Amherst and South Amherst uncovered a quantity of wine. Price was released on bond to appear before Justice J. George for a wearing.
In Defiance Ohio on December 22, two male debaters Thomas White and Carl Dille argued for long hair and defeated Miss Hazel Perry and Lela Smoberstag who defended the bob and several short styles.
Three men were admitted to St. Joseph's Hospital in Lorain with injuries from accidents over the weekend. John Szabo of 749 Fast 30th Street suffered rib fractures and facial cuts in a truck crash at Lorain Ashland and Southern railroads and Lorain Street Railway in Broadway. William Wassen, a Birmingham carpenter, was struck by an auto at Penfield Junction and sufferd a fractured jaw and facial cuts. John Kirsh of Elyria Avenue and 39th Street fractured his right ankle stepping on a slippery pavement Sunday and walked home before being hospitalized.
Captain W C Jeffries reports record kettles this year with a $100 gift from Wm A Ely. Army plans baskets and presents for forty needy families on Christmas day. In police court five men are fined for intoxication and disorderly conduct, Bardner claiming he was robbed of $50 but no thief found.
Horace M. Towner governor of Porto Rico told President Coolidge of his wish to retire soon after the first of the year. Once a congressman from Iowa, he cites ill health as the reason for leaving the tropics.
Chicago Great Western Railroad reports nearly five years with no passenger fatalities. G. O. Perkins, chairman of the safety committee, says the railroad spans 1600 miles from Chicago to St Paul and Minneapolis and other western points. The boast appears in the carrier’s house organ with the slogan.
Clarence F Rowland becomes Lorain County farm agent succeeding Howard Rogers. He starts January 1 and brings five years experience as farm agent in Columbiana county. Native of Marietta and OSU graduate praised forLisbon work by farmers and county newspapers.

Former Elyrian Earl Voglesong, friend of Dr. Myles E. Perry and ex Elyria resident, visits Perry after arriving from Detroit Saturday night and staying until Tuesday morning. Voglesong recently moved to Detroit to join Chevrolet Motor Co.’s sales staff, transferred from Oakland California.
Lorain, Dec 22 Mrs Mc Donough Matusek and her three months old baby may go to Marysville prison tomorrow if she cannot raise the $100 fine and costs. She lies in custody after pleading guilty to liquor law violation and seeking clemency from the court.
In Lorain on December 22, Safety Director William A. Miller told Elmwood Cemetery sexton to release a dog after he chased three boys from the grounds for cutting Christmas trees. Miller said the boys meant no harm and would not be prosecuted.

Budapest on December 22 reported that the Hungarian film censor cut scenes from The Queen of Slaves based on The Moon of Israel. The censor objected to the Dry Foot crossing for Jews and drowning Egyptians, calling it pro Jewish propaganda in a Christian racialist country.
Wilbur Lynn Gilson of 129 Riverside Court Elyria dies at 30 after serving in the Signal Corps during the Argonne offensive. He was gassed, left with total disability, and endured six years of suffering before returning home with VFW life membership. Funeral at First Congregational Church Lorain with VFW and GAR honors at Ridgelawn cemetery.
Peter Jepson age 82 of North Eaton died at Memorial Hospital yesterday at 3 30 in the afternoon. The body was taken to his North Eaton home by Charles Melbourne and son.
Lorain reports 39 vessels tied up in the harbor awaiting lake transportation start in spring. The fleet includes 33 freighters four tugs one barge and one sandsucker preparing for the seasonal shift.
