Coroner investigates a fatal blast at the home of Arthur Brumbaugh near Johnsville, Dayton. A leaking acetylene gas pipe is suspected. Brumbaugh died from a crushed skull, while Mrs Brumbaugh and three children survived with injuries. The home was lifted off its foundation and destroyed.

Mrs Bush Cahoon died last evening at 711, aged x years one month. She was widow of W. E. and daughter of the ish. A resident for forty nine years she was a member of the Episcopal church and Ladies Auxiliary A R. The funeral will be Monday at two from the Neal Home with burial at Tidgelawn Cemetery.
Marietta Georgia December 22 One engineer James W Brown of Decatur was killed when the Dixie Limited derailed and the engine overturned. Fireman escaped with minor injuries as the train ran three minutes late on Nashville Chattanooga and St Louis tracks. Spreading rails were blamed for the wreck.
E J Harmount of the State Utilities Commission visited the city for a partial investigation into the death by electrocution of Mrs Marie Bannon. He consulted with Coroner Perry and toured the scene and said a hearing may be ordered after the holidays to fix responsibility.
The forecast predicts local rains or snows in the Great Lakes region Monday or Tuesday and again near week’s end with generally fair conditions in between. Temperatures will be normal or above until late in the week when colder weather is expected. In the Ohio valley unsettled conditions possible after midweek.
President Calvin Coolidge and Mrs. Coolidge with guests boarded the Mayflower for a short Potomac cruise this afternoon and will return late tonight.
Samuel Gompers president of the AFL will sail from New York to Panama to examine labor conditions in the Canal Zone. He will be joined by William J. Spencer of the Building Trades Department and Albert J. Berres of the Metal Trades Department and plans a month in the zone.
Louis H. Young of this city announces his candidacy for county treasurer on the Republican ticket. He is well and favorably known in the community.
The Association of Army and Navy officers urged former premier Venizelos to resume office only if he guarantees banishment of the Glücksburg Dynasty including Prince Paul who is King George's exile-bound brother. The statement was issued in Athens on December 22.
John O. Cole, acting prohibition enforcement officer, was arrested in Steubenville on extortion charges. He is held on a $4,000 bond for allegedly taking bribes from Charles Appiletti of Piney Fork for liquor protection payments. Cole, ill in bed, calls the arrest a frameup amid a state probe led by Klan sponsors.
The court grants a divorce to Mrs Cora Thompson from Harry Thompson by Judge Thompson on grounds of gross neglect of diligent support and desertion.
Chicago businessmen plan to push for bringing the Democratic National Convention to the city in July. The report notes current Christmas mail volume is five to fifty percent heavier than last year.

Waterloo New York December 22 Mrs Nettie Case Taylor was acquitted of first degree murder for the July 13 killing of her husband Frank Taylor She admitted killing him with an ax as their six children slept nearby claiming self defense
Schools closed for the holiday season with students not returning until January 7 or 8. Teachers visit homes and classrooms exchanged gifts as pupils sang carols in the high school auditorium. The six Americanization classes closed, with plans for January return to Settlement House and Technical High School.
Cleveland police sought a Mangard from Youngstown in connection with the murder of 26 year old Mrs. Georgian Woodward. The slayer, said to be seeking his wife, shot her at her East 49th street home after she denied knowledge of the missing woman. The shotgun used was recovered in the yard near the body.
William Oldham and the probate office staff surprised five delinquent boys with a Christmas display as they reported Saturdays. A miniature tree Santa Claus and decorations greeted them. Two regular attendees were excused from future visits, and all expressed appreciation and a pledge to improve.
Work at Holy Cross Catholic church on West Avenue progresses with finishing touches inside. Christmas services were postponed due to the delayed completion, as the church remains a growing centerpiece for the congregation.
Mrs. Edna May Wollett obtained a divorce today after testifying that her husband Geo Albert Wollett who had both legs lost in an accident eloped with Mrs. Een Dodd. The couple fled to Cleveland in Wollett’s car designed for a legless driver.
Congressman M. L. Davey of the Fourteenth Ohio District has introduced bills to authorize the Secretary of War to donate captured German cannons or field pieces to multiple Ohio locales including Akron Elyria Lorain Cuyahoga Falls Kenmore Ravenna Kent Amherst Medina Wadsworth Wellington Oberlin and Hiram. The War Department sought authorization from the 67th Congress to dispose of the captured material but so far has seen no result. The new measures aim to empower the current Congress to take action on this disposition.
A LaGrange farmers institute will be held Friday and Saturday January 4 and 5. H A Lehman will give addresses as Mahoning county’s former six year county agent. Dr Mary H Anderson will speak on health sanitation and efficiency with other speakers unnamed. An agricultural and school exhibit with prizes will be featured and moving pictures on corn borer damage by F H Parks of Ohio State University will be shown. The event draws strong local farmer interest and public attendance is invited.
Sheriff Underhill stopped a Cleveland bus arresting Lloyd Quinn formerly of Oberlin. Two and a half gallons of alcohol were found. Quinn pleaded guilty to illegal transportation of liquor before Judge Thompson and was fined two hundred dollars plus costs, and jailed for nonpayment. It is suspected he supplied Oberlin with liquor delaying Christmas celebrations.
Mrs Elizabeth Reed aged seventy five died at her residence on But Ridge. She leaves children Fred Reed of Crew and Elsie Reed. The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at two oclock at the late home with interment at But Ridge cemetery.
Four bids were submitted for the next three years of the Lorain service department. Bids ranged from about 28 500 to 34 609 for feeding and related work, with several named contractors listed and a decision expected soon.
The State Department rejected a Soviet claim that forged documents connected to Georges Tehutehetin and the Soviet to the Workers Party of America sought to incite a revolution in the United States. No evidence supported the allegation.
A local medical probe blames a wholesale drug firm for mislabeling arsenic as acacia leading to the deaths of Mrs. Minnie C. Davies of Columbus and Mrs. Nellie Paul of Circleville and nearly killing Dr. W D Murphy. The firm’s name was not released. Also for Christmas, the Weather Bureau predicts a snowless holiday across most of the United States with rain in the northwest and Great Lakes region and near normal temperatures nationwide.
Lorain on December 22 reports Police Chief Walker proclaimed Lorain dry and that no liquor was sold locally He added that Lorain booze seekers would travel to Elyria for supplies His statements drew scorn as a joker remark from residents and observers.
Dayton Ohio December 22 L H Whiteman a leading Nenia citizen and former editor of the Nenia Herald died at eight p m after being struck by an automobile driven by Edith Davidson 16 and Mary Crawford. Whiteman served as postmaster under Grover Cleveland and was editor of the Laurel Maryland Democrat. He held civic roles as justice of the peace and Masonic member and was a Civil War veteran.
Adame of Lorain faces divorce allegations after a year of dispute alleging assault and neglect. Mettie C. Buck of Wellington seeks divorce and child custody citing gross neglect and lack of support by her husband who allegedly assaulted her and was fined.
An elderly man, likely around seventy, identified as Eugene E Wick of Harrisburg, Pa, collapsed dead at Leedale and Schaffer’s barber shop at 1 30 p m while waiting for a shave. He was pronounced dead on the scene and his body was moved to Sudro's funeral home.
Tomorrow afternoon the Fraternal Order of Eagles will host its annual Christmas treat for the wives and children of members. A large entertainment is planned with presents for attendees. The Moose Lodge also schedules its Christmas event with wives and children receiving gifts and a program of activities.
The Young Men's Business Club announces Santa Claus will meet city children at the municipal Christmas tree with a present for all. The tree will be lighted and a general good time expected. Washington, Dec. 22. The American government has submitted counter suggestions to Britain regarding the 18 mile limit frontier between top countries, State Department says.
