Carl Sagan dies at 62 after battle with bone marrow disease
Renowned astronomer Carl Sagan died at age 62 from pneumonia following a two year fight with myelodysplasia. He passed at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle surrounded by family, after a bone marrow transplant in 1985. Sagan, who lived in Ithaca, NY, won the Pulitzer Prize in 1978 for The Dragons of Eden and hosted Cosmos, becoming a national figure and science popularizer. He is survived by his wife, his sister Carl Sagan Greene, five children, and a grandson.
