Polish troops refuse to fire on striking Poles in Silesia

United Press International reports 66 people were killed in Silesia clashes this week while Polish troops refused to open fire on striking miners. Riots in Warsaw killed 27. 5,000 in Paris observed a vigil for Solidar ity editor Tadeusz Narowiecki. Strikes spread to Lublin, Wroclaw, Mielic and Swidnic as police raids yielded grenades and firearms. Archbishop Glemp urged calm. Summary trials of Solidarity leaders began as curfew hours shifted and extended in various provinces.
