The Senate votes 65 to 31 to repeal the 1993 dont ask dont tell ban on openly gay service members. Obama expects to sign next week with a 60 day wait period before repeal, enabling gays to serve openly for the first time in U.S. military history.
Dalphene Shaver and about 100 friends and family gathered at Pleasant View Baptist Church in Litchfield to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her heart transplant as she shared the first piece of cake with her husband Michael. Gladys Hall, Dalphene’s mother, placed a pin on her daughter during the reception.
The Ohio Turnpike Commission will vote on raising the speed limit from 65 to 70 mph for all vehicles, effective April 1 if approved. Commissioner Edward Kidston said the higher limit could attract drivers from secondary roads as trucks run about 66 mph and cars in the low 70s.
Clarence Weaver, who served over 16 years for his wife Helen Weaver's 1991 death, asks Gov. Ted Strickland for clemency. He claims innocence and cites his age of 75 and desire to be with family while noting he remarried after the crime.
