Saturday Night TV Slumps Pressure Major Networks
Saturday viewing has dwindled for CBS ABC and NBC as classic lineups fade and new hits vanish. HBO dominates Saturdays with premiere movies and original series while Fox and cable channels fill the void with reality fare and pay TV products. Video rentals also spike, signaling shifting audience habits away from traditional network programming. ABC plans midseason replacements and a broad two hour weekend block for next season.
