Sunspots and CB radio interference explained
Sunspots affect ionospheric radio waves, raising the maximum usable frequency and causing more interference on the 27 megahertz Citizens Band. Experts say overall long-range interference will be limited while short-range CB use remains workable. FCC consideration of moving CB to FM or higher bands could improve operations, with two frequency sets possible during transition. Amateur radio classes at Medina Joint Vocational School attract many students. Comments and inquiries can be mailed to Charlie Brown at The Chronicle-Telegram.
