Tax bill sparks debate over sales tax and taxes on luxury income
From A-1 Johnson of New Concord argues the bill prevents deeper cuts to education and services. Sen. Burch and others oppose, saying it burdens middle class taxpayers and small businesses. The measure expands the 5 percent sales tax base to services, trims retailer discounts, raises tobacco and alcohol taxes, and creates a 7.5 percent top rate for earners 200000 and above. About 125 million in capital improvements funding targets Ohio cities like Cleveland and Dayton projects.
