Ruling averts Elyria city teachers strike policy dispute

Tax rate shifts in Lorain County real estate bills
Lorain County taxpayers in 47 of 66 districts will see lower real estate tax bills next month while 18 districts raise rates. The new rates, from 44.42 to 64.80 mills, were released by County Auditor Julian A. Pijor and sent to the State Board of Tax Appeals for approval. Elyria’s rate is 51.40 mills, down 0.9, with 6.5 for county, 37.30 for schools, 2 for vocational district, and 5.30 for city. Valuation uses 38 percent of fair market value. Four fewer districts exist after eliminating township overlaps. The new rates follow adjustments in school debt milage and other factors.
