No more Saturday mail if budget cuts approved
The Senate budget plan could halt construction on as many as 70 major postal facilities and stop hundreds of smaller projects. It would cut post office hours to six a day and shed thousands of part time workers, raising the likelihood of slower delivery and no Saturday service. The measure shifts nearly 2 billion dollars in costs from the federal budget to the Postal Service, with final effects to be settled in conference.
