Hollywood freelanced stars rail at Social Security tax
Jimmie Fidler reports Hollywood directors and actors angered by the Social Security tax scheme. Contract stars like Robert Montgomery pay 1 percent on the first $3,000 of salary while freelancers earning more or working for multiple studios face higher, per-employer taxes. The piece notes the system favors some over others and contrasts it with income tax rules, ending with a light Idol Chatter note about Deanna Durbin’s growing fan mail.
