Ohio study finds widespread AIDS myths persist
A health survey of 500 Ohioans shows many hold false beliefs about AIDS transmission. While most know AIDS spreads by sexual contact or needle sharing, 45 percent wrongly think it can be passed by giving blood. Other myths include transmission via glass, mosquitoes, restroom workers, toilet seats, or living with an infected person. Public education gaps remain, with 81 percent citing AIDS as the nation's top medical problem and over half supporting condom distribution in schools.
