Snow is forecast tonight over the northern sections of the Great Plains and Mississippi valley changing to rain along the eastern slopes of the lower Rockies. Some rain or snow is indicated for parts of the north Atlantic coast. Elsewhere fair to partly cloudy skies should prevail.
The forecast predicts cloudy conditions through tomorrow with drizzle possible in central and northern areas tonight A chance of rain in central regions and rain likely in the north tomorrow Highs range from the upper 30s to around 50 while tonight’s lows stay in the upper 30s to 40s
A system brings a chance of rain or snow Sunday then snow flurries on Monday. Tuesday turns fair and warmer with highs in the 40s. Overnight lows drop from the 20s to the low 30s across the period, with Sunday and Monday in the 30s to low 40s.
The village council approved a two year contract with Lorain County Sanitation Co for weekly trash pickup at $3 per month per family for up to four 20 gallon containers. Two annual cleanup days included. The rate rose 50 cents monthly from the prior contract. Public notices will be posted in five village locations. Sherman Smith sworn in for another term as mayor. Next council meeting scheduled for Jane at 7:30 pm at the fire station.
Snow and rain blanket much of the country from the Northeast to the West with two inches in Eugene Oregon and Mt Shasta California.Freezing drizzle crosses southern Michigan and northern Illinois as a new storm moves inland. Bitter cold grips Montana North Dakota and Minnesota while Ohio stays cloudy with light rain and patchy snow through Saturday. In Massachusetts poets and literary figures are noted as the state’s home to several famed writers.
A Chronicle Telegram headline suggested Lorain approved pay raises for administrators, but council has only discussed salary increases in the finance committee and has not voted to grant them. The issue remains unresolved and awaiting full council action.
The Elyria Public Library will close at noon on December 24 and stay shut until December 29 to conserve energy and observe Christmas. No books will be due during these extra closing days. For New Year’s Day observance, the library closes at noon on December 31 and reopens January 2 for regular hours.
