Boy Killed By Brother TV Gunfights Lead To Lorain Tragedy

Lorain County recorded its 62nd traffic death when Charles FE Brown died of injuries from a crash at Pyle South Amherst and Garfield Ris in Oberlin. In Lorain, 16 year old Glenn Smith was accidentally shot and killed by his 12 year old brother Charles while watching a western on TV. The gunshot, fired from a Savage 30 06 rifle owned by the father Guy, occurred when both boys believed the safety was on. Glenn, a Lorain High School junior and varsity athlete, died at the chair where he sat with the family’s dog. The dog also died from the bullet. Police deemed it an accident. The family had moved from Morgantown three years earlier.

Dynamite Blast Destroys Car At Westinghouse Plant

Charles Clark, president of Local 746 IUE, saw his automobile destroyed by a dynamite blast on the union parking lot near the Westinghouse plant. No injuries reported as members gathered at a nearby drive-in theater to hear strike progress. A prior search found no explosives while plant officials questioned the meeting location under a restraining order.

Suspect Denies He's Girl Killer

Louis Statler, 68, charged with the murder of Gloria Anne Ferry, was to be arraigned on fugitive charges in Chicago. He was arrested by FBI agents after denying his identity and claiming to be Robert West. Agents say fingerprints and photos prove his identity. The victim, 18, from Altoona, Pa, was found in Brookside Park on October 9. she and Statler checked into a downtown hotel under assumed names around Sept. 26.
