Smith, who lost his re election bid in November, says he will review the allegations, while Sheriff’s officials will keep him on the job during the case pending an administrative review after the criminal matter concludes.
Elaine Freeman wife of North Ridgeville Police Chief Mike Freeman was ordered jailed for 10 days and placed on 30 days house arrest after pleading no contest to theft at Kohl's Avon Lake Municipal Court Judge Darrel Bilancini also fined her $250. Freeman has repaid Kohl's and is undergoing counseling.
