Andreas Fault Moves Faster Than Thought Says AGU
UPI reports at the AGU meeting that the coastal Andreas Fault is moving six times faster than previously believed. California’s western block may have shifted about 750 miles, not 400, as paleomagnetic data from rock magnets indicate. The west coast region continues to drift northward, potentially pushing Los Angeles toward San Francisco over millions of years.
