In Moscow Boris Yeltsin outlined a possible leadership role for Mikhail Gorbachev in the new commonwealth of Russia, Ukraine, and Byelorussia after a weekend agreement. Nazarbayev, present at the Kremlin briefing, said he remains pragmatic about Gorbachev and supports his Union Treaty while noting Nazarbayev’s Kazakh republic was excluded from the pact. The leaders agreed to send the Slavic compact to the Soviet parliament for review, amid questions about authority to block or approve the alliance.

Dad facing trial takes overdose
Wiley Taylor Jr. remained in serious condition in the Elyria Memorial Hospital ICU an hour before his trial for the death of his 6 month old son.
