The piece argues mild winters reduce birdwatching as birds skip feeders for natural prey. It cites warm U S temperatures and 21 states much above average, noting birds adapt to weather and may return to feeders when conditions worsen. It also weighs pros and cons of feeding and insists feeding is neither essential nor universally harmful.
