Ohio Voters Reject School Financing Levy Plan
The proposed constitutional levy would have generated 1.1 billion dollars yearly, split evenly between schools and property tax relief. Gov. Voinovich said defeat stemmed from voters’ belief schools had no need for more funds, while Ltow Superintendent Bongiorno blamed the plan’s structure. He noted district support for an emergency renewal levy of 7.3 million over five years, arguing locals trust schools over state politicians to spend money wisely.
