Winter storm hits California and nation wide
A powerful winter storm dumped several inches of snow in Southern California mountains and pummelled lower elevations with thunderstorms and hail. Roads closed from snow and flooding. 25,000 in San Luis Obispo County lost power. The system moved toward Arizona and produced snow in Flagstaff and snow squalls across Indiana and Michigan, with heavy snow in the Upper Mississippi Valley and a developing system threatening New England Maryland and West Virginia. Rain spread across the south-central U S as cold air spread.

Elyria man given probation in gun shop killing conspiracy
Christopher P. Crook 27 of Elyria received two years probation after pleading guilty to obstructing justice in a plan to kill a gun dealer and steal 16 guns. He testified against Kenneth D. Vicks and Norman C. Smith Jr. who were convicted for the July 20 1991 murder at Richard K. Zeleznik’s store. Crook helped plan the crime but backed out at the last minute. Zeleznik’s widow called the sentence a miscarriage of justice.
