Chronicle-Telegram reporters toured major local hotels including Westlake Holiday Inn Elyria Americana Inn and Avon Lake Aqua Marine Lodge to spot blocked exits unlit signs or other code violations. One unlit exit sign found at Elyria Holiday Inn while other signs were lit. Exits stairwells and fire doors appeared unblocked. no sprinkler system or smoke detectors required in 1963 building. Fire safety committee formed by Elyria Holiday Inn manager Robert L Stuart with six weeks on the job.
