Urban league leader lauds Toyota plant hiring fairness
P G Peeples executive director of the Lexington Urban League says Toyota’s Evansville truck plant offers minorities a real chance at work through a merit based system. He cites an assessment center that screens applicants without regard to race or family connections and notes Toyota’s Georgetown plant employs 6 300 people, with 14 percent African American and 25 percent women. He urges minority groups to contact Toyota directly rather than state or local officials.
