Police battled militant students in violent sweeps at San Francisco State University. About 450 officers confronted demonstrators armed with clubs and improvised weapons, 32 activists arrested bringing total to 41 since campus reopenings. Robert William Bibby a 33 year old father of five from 1519 Cooley Road was killed when his westbound car collided with a tractor trailer on Route 82 about 1.7 miles east of Route 76. The crash at 1 55 a m left Bibby dead at the scene and sent truck driver Cel sus Boles 48 to Elyria Memorial Hospital in fair condition. The State Patrol cited wet pavement as a probable cause and noted Bibby’s car was totaled with injuries severe. The Lorain County traffic toll for 1968 rose to 78 deaths, a new record.
