Steinbrenner on AmShip Close Probed by Lorain Yard Losses
Yankees owner George Steinbrenner spoke Friday about AmShip Lorain yard closure. He blamed the steel industry and imported steel for harming Great Lakes shipping and said the board’s decision was reluctant but necessary. He urged focus on broader industry issues, not individual unions. Lorain Port Authority director Sulpizio outlined plans to attract new business with state and federal aid and available $4 million dry dock rehabilitation bonds.

He notes the guardsmen, recorded as missing or killed in action, could have testified against top officers.
