IRS Refuses to Allow Romance Ring Bad Debt Deduction

Dallas salesman Jack Wolfson lost in U S Tax Court after seeking a deduction for a three quarter carat engagement ring and ring guard he gave to Yvonne Gibbs of Houston. A Texas court had ordered repayment but Gibbs had no assets, and the court found the debt did not become worthless in 1976, so the IRS was not required to cover the romance.

Australian scientist Paul Hemsworth told the University of Illinois Pork Industry Conference that pigs respond to kind handling. Across 12 Dutch farms pigs that were petted and spoken to grew faster and showed better reproduction, while rough treatment cut growth by 5 to 6 percent.
