Keystone district cuts 70,000 in initial round of budget fixes
Keystone Local Schools approved about 70 thousand dollars in cuts at a Keystone High School board meeting attended by more than 50. The measures take effect mid January and include paraprofessional eliminations, custodial hour reductions, ending the Keystonian winter and graduation editions, and 8 pm building closings. A larger round worth over 920 thousand dollars would follow in June 2015 unless an operating levy is approved on the May ballot. School officials noted voters last approved funds in 1994 and a November levy failed 5.95 mills. Students Madison Copley and Tyler Elliott led a survey showing strong interest in a future levy and student involvement.
